Habit Appliance

A habit appliance is designed to help stop thumb or finger-sucking habits and to correct improper tongue posture or swallowing patterns. These habits can cause unwanted changes to the teeth and jaw over time. To prevent this, a custom appliance may be placed, typically secured to the back molars. Most habit appliances are fixed (not removable) to ensure consistent results and minimize disruption.

Space Maintainers

When a primary (baby) tooth is lost early, a space maintainer may be used to keep surrounding teeth from shifting into the empty space. This ensures there’s enough room for the permanent tooth to come in properly. Space maintainers are made from stainless steel and/or plastic and can be either fixed or removable, depending on your child’s needs.

Distalizer / Molar Rotation

A Distalizer is used to reposition molars before beginning full orthodontic treatment. This technique allows for better alignment of the molars and can significantly reduce the overall time needed for braces or other orthodontic appliances. It’s a proactive step that sets the stage for more efficient treatment.
